Why Assignor exists

It started with a problem I understood from both sides: officiating is hard to run, and the tools for running it were spreadsheets and group texts. Not because anyone chose them, but because nothing built for the job was worth the money it asked for.

So I built Assignor - software that manages a roster of officials, collects their availability, assigns the right person to every event, and sends the notifications automatically. It comes from time spent around officiating, not just around code.

My background sits at the intersection of athletics and the keyboard. I competed for years across several sports - ten years wrestling, twelve playing soccer, seven playing baseball, and more playing football - then stayed close to the game as a coach (three years in wrestling, four in soccer, eight in baseball, plus football and a few seasons assisting a basketball team) and as an official (five years officiating wrestling - folkstyle, freestyle, and Greco-Roman - and three officiating soccer). Alongside all of that, I've spent over twenty years as a software developer. That combination has given me a firsthand view of the challenges facing the people who make athletics happen, along with the skills to build better solutions. I'm based in Loudoun County, Virginia, and Assignor is where I put those experiences to work.

How it's run

Assignor is made by Officially, the company I founded to put my standard behind the software I ship. There is no support queue: when you write in, you're talking to the person who built it. Every capability on this site is one that ships in the app today - nothing is listed before it exists.
